21st Feb Lunar Eclipse

Details of the eclipse and hopefully some images!!

Total Ecplise

This will be a total eclipse, unlike the 2007 event which had a small part of the moon in the umbra. It gave rise some excellent images however, and we were blessed with clear skies on the night. Fingers crossed we will be again! The observatory will not be open for this event due to the unsociable hours, but we hope as many of you as possible will brave the early morning and observe it.

The data of the eclipse is below so you can plan your observing, and any images should be sent to Darren at programme_at_bedsastr0.0rg.uk for including on this page. Good Luck!

Linton reported "Sadly clouds spoiled the main part of last night's Lunar eclipse, but the four observers who did gather at the dome saw some good views right up to totality. I hope others got some good views from gardens and bedroom windows!". Darren Jehan lamented "There was cloud cover from my view in Stewartby, but I wish I had gone to the observatory as planned! Well done to the four that did go". Linton got some nice images, shown below. With the montage one, he says "Try to visualise the Moon moving upwards and left into the Earth's shadow, while at the same time the rotation of the Earth is taking the whole scene down and right towards the western horizon."
